Slap Bet

This is the "Slap Bet" song performed and written by Marshall. This video is provided by youtube.com.

Possibly the most popular and favored joke in How I Met Your Mother; the Slap Bet comes up often in the show, and is usually a huge deal to the gang. The slaps are at random times, making each one funnier than the last. Now boys and girls gather round for the story of the "Slap Bet".
Once upon a time, Marshall, Lily, Ted, Barney, and Robin were downstairs at McLaren's pub. They were trying to agree about where they would hang out that night, but couldn't make up their minds. One of them finally came up with the fantastic idea of going to the mall. Robin quickly refuted this idea, causing great pandemonium among the group.
Marshall and Barney decide to make predictions of why Robin doesn't want to go to the mall. Marshall believes it is because she was married in a mall, while Barney has more inappropriate suggestions. The two of them agreed to make this a slap bet in which the winner receives permission to slap the loser as hard as he can. Barney and Marshall appoint Lily as “slap bet commissioner”, so they have someone to make judgments about their bet.
Robin tells them that she was married at one time, so Marshall wins the bet, and therefore slaps Barney as hard as he is able to. Marshall uses his pedantic lawyer mind to look up Robin's legal record; finding no record of marriage. Since Robin lied, Lily awards three slaps to Barney.
Barney reveals to the group that he is correct because a man in Malaysia found a video of Robin and Barney assumes that it is inappropriate. This dubs Barney the temporary winner. Robin comes in, telling them that this is an incorrect assumption; the video actually reveals an embarrassing video of Robin Sparkles, Robin's 80s teen pop sensation with her hit song "Let's Go to The Mall". She toured all of the malls throughout Canada, traumatizing her of trips to the mall for the rest of her life. This meant that Barney lost the bet. Lily awarded five slaps to Marshall for whenever he feels the need to hit Barney.
Barney is caused to live in complete fear, just waiting for Marshall to use his five slaps. These

slaps build up to important plot turns in the episodes.

The Doppelgangers

These are the five doppelgangers. This is provided by howimetyourmother.tumblr.com.

The gang from How I Met Your Mother has many inside stories that not many people know about. One of the more important stories is of "The Doppelgangers". The Doppelgangers are strange resemblances of  Ted, Marshall, Lily, Robin, and Barney. They're always on the look out for their doppelgangers. Resemblances of them are spotted at the most arbitrary times which makes all of the doppelganger sightings hilarious.

It all started when they found the first doppelganger; it was Robin's. One day while they were all strolling along in front of McLaren's, they saw her. A manlier looking Robin that was dubbed "Lesbian Robin". Little did they know at this time that in the upcoming years they would find all of the doppelgangers.

The second doppelganger is Marshall's, who is a Mexican lawyer that the gang  saw on an advertisement on the side of a bus. This gave Marshall's doppelganger the title of "Moustache Marshall". The third doppelganger that was found was Lily's. Barney took Marshall to a strip club to persuade him to look at a woman other than Lily. Barney doesn't succeed with this until "Stripper Lily" comes out. Marshall then is able to look because "Stripper Lily" is identical to his wife, Lily.

Ted's doppelganger was found at the funniest and most random time possible. At a limited time wrestling event, there was an event called Robots vs. Wrestlers. Barney, Marshall, and Lily all see the unmasked Mexican wrestler and noticed that he was "Mexican Wrestler Ted".

Barney's doppelganger was the final and most difficult to find. He was also the most important because Marshall and Lily made an oath in which when they saw Barney's doppelganger, they would conceive. Barney played tricks on them dressing up as a cab driver, street performer, and a hot dog vendor. They finally found the universe's sign to conceive at the fertility doctor's office. His name was Dr. Stangel and when they saw him, they knew that it was time to have kids.

In this comedy about the gang, they can make funny things into the most

heartwarming scenes. This is How I Met Your Mother and that's why it's my favorite

 show.

The Blue French Horn

Ted Mosby is shown above returning to give Robin, the blue french horn from the restaurant where they went for dinner. Picture provided by screened.com

“The Blue French Horn” is the first ever episode of How I Met Your Mother. A story of love, between Ted Mosby and Robin Scherbatsky, that is somewhat cute and partly creepy. As the first and possibly one of the most important episodes of the whole series, this is the tale of the Blue French Horn.

It began when Ted was at McLaren's Pub in the company of Barney. All Ted was able to talk about was finding his soul mate and having a family with her. Barney could only think about getting a girl to spend one night with. On this fine evening at the pub, Ted locks his eyes on Robin Scherbatsky, a news anchor with whom he falls in love with instantly. Ted asks her out on a date and she concurs. Concluding the date, Robin was being called in for a news story. During the date she points out a "Blue French Horn" hanging on the wall and talks about its beauty. Ted leaves her at her apartment and returns to the pub.

At the pub, Ted is being interrogated by the gang, and realizes that he shouldn't have left Robin without kissing her. Since he didn't, he returns to see her that night, for once, not refuting Barney‘s suggestion to "Suit up!". On the way to see her, he stops at the restaurant, and steals the "Blue French Horn" from the restaurant.

When Ted finally reaches his destination to see her with the "Blue French Horn" in hand, he yells up to her apartment and she invites him in. Ted, flowing with emotions, couldn’t wait to kiss her. Everything was going well, until he leans in for the kiss and says a ridiculously premature "I love you". She begins to feel overwhelmed and asks him to leave. This destroys his chances with her for the night.
Ted ends this show by narrating “And kids, that's how I met your... Aunt Robin.” Although

this seems disappointing, it isn't because that implies that Robin will continue to be a huge part of

Ted's life, as he is of hers.

Barney Stinson

Barney Stinson is above with him being himself. His favorite quote is "Suit Up!". Picture provided by improvfangirl.tumblr.com.

"Challenge accepted." I am writing about Barney Stinson, my ultimate favorite character from How I Met Your Mother. Barney believes there is no greater thing than hitting on a woman. He hates marriage and kids. This seems very weird for a thirty year old man because this is when a man should be settling down with a family. Barney is in the prime of his life, living his life in order to date the most beautiful women in the world, and this is his story.

Barney grew up in New York with his single mom and an African-American brother named James. His mother keeps the identity of Barney's father a secret. His mom told him that his father was Bob Barker, and he believed this his whole life until he met his real father, a driver instructor.

Barney's life consists of four things: suits, himself, women, and laser tag. Barney makes up many nicknames for himself such as "The Barnacle". Barney's theory is that no man looks good unless he's wearing a suit; he lives for suits. Never does he not wear a suit; his closet is all suits and ties. He doesn't wear a real suit to bed though, he wears one that is made out of silk. One of his catchphrases is "Suit up!", which no one acknowledges. Barney believes himself to be the most awesome person in the world, but others believe he is very inappropriate all of the time. He hits on women constantly using the “Playbook-a book” loaded with different pick-up lines, and the Bro Code,  a code that he bases his whole life on, (which he contributed to immensely). His favorite hobby is laser tag and seldom he is defeated.

Barney's main goal in life is to teach Ted how to live, and Ted doesn't want to be taught this because Barney just is trying to keep Ted from getting married. Barney has had very few real relationships in life, but he's been in love with Robin multiple times. They don't work together very well because they both have huge egos that get in the way. Lily tries to help him get a girlfriend, but he refuses to be in a relationship with anyone for more than one night. Marshall and Barney become best friends off and on, but spend more time fighting over who is Ted's best friend. Although Barney is very strong willed, deep down he is caring and sensitive.

In How I Met You Mother, viewers learn quickly of Barney’s gratuitous and absurd ways to pick up women. Barney is by far the most amusing and immature character in the television world. Barney truly is "Legen-wait for it-dary".

Robin Scherbatsky

This is Robin Scherbatsky with her five dogs that shwhas received from all of her ex-boyfriends. This picture is provided by screened.com

Robin Scherbatsky is from the Great White North, Canada. She grew up where life revolved around hockey, hunting and maple syrup. Robin is a hilarious character played by Cobie Smulders.

Robin grew up in Vancouver, Canada where she lived as a male. She didn't cause this on her own; her father always wanted a boy and didn't want anything else, so he attempted to make Robin become a boy; so much that her middle name is Charles. He raised Robin this way until she was a teenager. Her father forced her to play men's hockey throughout childhood, and took her hunting every single year, even if she didn't want to go. She broke her father's heart when she broke away and got into her "girly-self"; it caused problems and they no longer have the same relationship as they had when she was a child.

Robin left her home in Canada to pursue her dream of becoming a news anchor. She found herself in a place opposite of where she grew up, New York City. It was tough until she met the gang. Robin was at McLaren's Pub, seeking friends, when Ted Mosby's eyes locked onto her and resulted in love at first sight. She thought everything was perfect, until their first date when he told her, "I love you" which was very creepy; She told him to leave right away.

After being completely crept out, she met the rest of Ted's friends whom she loved greatly. She is similar to Barney in which she doesn't believe in marriage quite yet. Robin bounces between many boyfriends, including Ted and Barney, making many of her other boyfriends uneasy. She continues to be best friends with both of them after breaking up with them each time.

Although Robin lives in New York, she still lives as if she is in Vancouver. She loves hockey, guns, and Canada, making her the central part of many jokes that her friends make pervasively in How I Met Your Mother.

Lily Aldrin

The picture above is Lilypad and Marshmallow at their wedding, showing true love for one another.

"I screamed at a little girl for painting a rainbow." Lily is a woman that tends to be annoyed from almost anything; she doesn't put up with much, except for her husband Marshall. Lily Aldrin is portrayed by Alison Hannigan on How I Met Your Mother.
Lily was born and raised in New York and she loves that she hails from Brooklyn. She is almost the exact opposite of her husband Marshall, who is from St. Cloud, Minnesota. Marshall and Lily are extremely close and have an almost embarrassing relationship because of how cute they are. Lily calls Marshall “Marshmallow” and Marshall calls her “Lilypad“. Although Marshall and Lily were dating for more than ten years before getting married, it seems like they have an everlasting love. This is not completely true though; Lily left Marshall for a brief time while trying to achieve her dream of becoming an artist in Los Angeles. This didn't last long because Marshall and she are nearly inseparable. They were working out the kinks when Marshall proposed to her. They married, but Lily kept her last name.
Lily's hobbies include hanging out at McLaren's Pub, and acting very immature. In between her time-consuming hobbies, Lily is a kindergarten teacher. I believe that part of her immature personality must be a result of being with her students; she is in shock when people use bad language, but will laugh for hours when someone says "booger". Her students make her feel sad at times and Lily ends up shopping in a gratuitous manner for designer clothing, which causes her to sit in a massive pile of debt.
Lily's friends are named Barney, Robin, and Ted. Lily and Barney have never seen eye to eye because Lily wants a family while Barney wants to be single for the rest of his life. Robin became a best friend to Lily when Ted fell in love with Robin after their firswt date, but I'll get to that later. Lily and Ted have both been friends with Marshall since college. Their relationship is mostly revolved around helping him find his soul mate.

Marshall Eriksen

Marshall Eriksen is a man of my neck of the woods; he is from the great north, St. Cloud, Minnesota. Here we enjoy hockey and snow, and the nicest people in the country live there. His friends from New York like to make fun of him though because of his amazing Minnesotan personality.

Growing up in Minnesota, Marshall was the runt of the family at six feet and four inches. He is very proud of winning the slam dunk competition in Nicollet County, winning with his dunk named "The White Windmill".  He misses living in Minnesota, because he is very close to his family and loves the state itself.

Marshall met Lily in college when she felt drawn to his room in their freshman year at Wesleyan University. This was the beginning of their very long relationship of ten years, and it finally led to marriage.  Marshall also met Ted at Wesleyan. In college, Marshall held the skeet ball high score under the name of "Big Fudge".

Marshall, or "Marshmallow" as Lily calls him, is a lawyer that wants to protect and save the planet; but, since life is not easy, he is forced to take a high paying corporate job at Goliath National Bank, which is the opposite of what he would like to do because of his views on the environment. Goliath National Bank is destroying wildlife and nature all over the world.

Since, Marshall is a lawyer he likes to say, "Lawyered!" every time he makes a point in an argument with his friends. He uses this phrase while defending things he highly believes in As a grown up, he still feels the same about myths such as Santa and the Easter Bunny, he is a believer. His favorite myth is Nessie the Loch Ness Monster, which he believes in very strongly. Watch and listen to the short video above.

"A man can do a lot of living in three hours." Marshall does a lot of living in every episode of "How I Met Your Mother" with and without his best friends.
Although, Marshall looks very insecure about himself in this picture; he is the complete opposite. This picture is from http://withfriendship.com/user/svaruna/marshall-eriksen.php.
